Madrid, Spain

Madrid is the capital of Spain and the third largest city in Europe, a vibrant center of Spanish politics, finance, and culture where the days are sunny and time is measured in fiestas from the old Catholic calendars. Yet, despite the cultural influence of Catholicism, Spain is the least evangelized Spanish-speaking country in the world. Though those who serve the poor are respected, the Church itself is despised, its reputation marred by a brutal history of repression as a tool of the state.

Our Madrid team is working to establish a loving, Christ-centered witness amid this wary and skeptical environment. In partnership with the Spanish Evangelical Presbyterian Church, they are planting a new church in the heart of the city—one that will serve as a cultural center to make connections that lead to deeper conversations about the gospel. Alongside the church plant, the team is launching a campus ministry to reach both international and national students that attend Madrid’s seven universities. They’ve also begun engaging with the city’s large artistic population through an outreach ministry using the arts.
