Opportunity Details

Ethiopia is a religiously and linguistically diverse country with an ancient history. While Ethiopian Orthodox Christianity has deep roots, and Protestant churches abound, false teachings of a prosperity gospel are common and Islam is quickly spreading. In Addis Ababa, an MTW team is working to encourage healthy and mature Presbyterian churches that will impact their local communities with the gospel. The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Will you join us?

There is an African proverb that says, “If you teach a man, you’ve taught one person. But if you teach a mother, you’ve taught the whole household.” In church plants made up mostly of women and children, women missionaries are needed to serve alongside church planting teams to help develop women’s ministries. Ministries could include helping with home visits, teaching and training women leaders, leading Bible studies, mentoring, and offering encouragement to the women of the congregations. Other ministries could include outreach among unsaved women in the neighborhoods around our existing church plants.

Candidates should be spiritually mature, flexible, humble, and teachable. A certificate or degree in ministry, theology, or related field can help qualify you for a work permit. A willingness to learn and grow into this position is more important than existing experience. Learning a local language (Amharic or Afan Oromo) will be essential, but our team will help you!
