Opportunity Details

In Ethiopia, Reformed, covenantal, and Presbyterian churches are swimming against the theological and ecclesiological current. In Addis Ababa, a growing number of Ethiopian pastors, elders, and ministry candidates are looking to grow in their ability to serve their congregations. They can benefit from experienced pastors/mentors like you.

Are you willing to use your experience as a ruling/teaching elder or deacon to help mentor Ethiopian church leaders? Do you have the ability to identify structural/systemic gaps (i.e. within a session or presbytery) and come up with workable solutions? This is an emerging ministry that will require flexibility and creativity. Mentoring may include formal channels like theological and pastoral education and homiletics workshops, as well as informal channels such as conversations over lunch and coffee. Ethiopian elders will benefit from coaching and training in how to run elders’ meetings, presbytery meetings, etc. in healthy and contextually appropriate ways. As you learn the local language and culture, your Christian life and relationships with Ethiopian pastors, elders, and ministry candidates will have great long-term impact.

Candidates should be spiritually mature, flexible, humble and teachable. Your willingness to learn and grow into this position is more important than your existing experience. Learning a local language (Amharic or Afan Oromo) will be essential, but our team will help you!
