Ethiopia is a diverse country with an ancient history. Right in the middle sits the capital, Addis Ababa. Poverty, both economic and spiritual, afflicts many communities in this sprawling city, and though Ethiopian Orthodox Christianity has deep roots, and Protestant churches abound, false teachings of a prosperity gospel are common and Islam is quickly spreading.

MTW’s national partner in Ethiopia is Grace of the Messiah Presbyterian Church—YTPC (Yemesihu Tsega)—a denomination legally and officially registered in Ethiopia. Currently the denomination has six church plants throughout Addis Ababa. In a theological context in which the primary form of Protestantism is the prosperity gospel, Reformed, covenantal, and Presbyterian churches are swimming against the current. In Addis Ababa, our MTW team works alongside YTPC to plant healthy and mature Presbyterian churches that will impact their local communities with the gospel.
