MADRID, SPAIN
Madrid is the capital of Spain and the third largest city in Europe, a vibrant center of Spanish politics, finance, and culture where the days are sunny and time is measured in fiestas from the old Catholic calendars. Yet, despite the cultural influence of Catholicism, Spain is the least evangelized Spanish-speaking country in the world. Though those who serve the poor are respected, the Church itself is despised, its reputation marred by a brutal history of repression as a tool of the state.
Here in this deeply secular, postmodern, post-Christian environment, MTW’s Madrid team works to plant churches throughout the city. Since its beginning in 1991, the team has been integrally involved in planting six churches, and currently team members are working with two church plants in different parts of Madrid. Church planting, relational ministry, discipleship, and one-on-one evangelism are at this team’s core. Their hearts long to see Spanish national churches rise up and the true gospel of hope and redemption take hold of the Spanish people.
