Multicultural Mobilization
Why do we need multicultural missionaries?
“There before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and before the Lamb” (Rev. 7:9).
Why is it so important to raise up multicultural missionaries?
We Believe Diversity in Our Community …
… more accurately reflects the kingdom of God (Rev 7:9).
We Believe Diversity in Our Community …
… leverages the unique perspectives, experiences, competencies, and gifts that people of color bring to our teams (Rom 12:4-8; 1 Cor 12:12-13).
We Believe Diversity in Our Community …
… is a powerful apologetic to the global nature of our faith and the reconciling power of the gospel to break down walls of hostility between peoples (Eph 2:11-22).
We Believe Diversity in Our Community …
… is consistent with the Presbyterian Church in America’s report on racial reconciliation and its recommendations.
Embracing the Image of God
We at MTW have been asking, “How do we better serve all of our brothers and sisters in our Church, who seek to serve as missionaries? How can we better come alongside all our churches, who want to send their members into global missions? How can we better send all people—who are made in the image of God—so that we can better reach all people for Christ?”
We’ve been listening to our Hispanic, African American, and Asian American brothers and sisters, many of whom serve as advisors, representatives, and champions of missions.
With their guidance we’ve been changing, learning, adapting, repenting. The Lord must first change hearts. But we can work to change our processes, trainings, language, and practices to ensure that we are serving our whole church well.
