Ninety eight percent of Japanese people have either rejected or never heard the gospel. That’s about 120 million people. In addition to that, the majority of pastors in Japan are over the age of 65 and are beginning to retire or leave the church for health reasons. Congregations are aging too. This is why youth ministry is so important in Japan! Declining birth rates and the rising average age of church leaders creates a formula for extinction. The Japanese church urgently needs new youthful leaders to carry it into the next generation!

Japan’s Next team invites you to join them in reaching and discipling young people this summer. Next reaches young people around the world by serving locally (e.g. reaching and discipling Japanese young people), equipping leaders (for youth/young adult ministry), and ministering to missionary families. Our team will mentor you and train you as you assist with community-wide and church activities, including Bible studies, games, sports, events, and one-on-one relational ministry (children, youth, and young adults). You will also support our MKs through leading Bible studies and other activities.

The ideal intern has some experience in ministry to youth or young adults, is willing to learn, and is self-driven and excited about being pushed outside of their comfort zone. In addition, interns need to be comfortable riding a bike as transportation. Is this you? We may have a spot for you in Nagoya, Japan, this summer.
