Tim Mills in Bangkok: When God Calls an Artist to Urban Church Planting (VIDEO)

Tim Mills studied ceramics in college. He was working as a graphic designer in Atlanta when he and his wife, Rhianna, a teacher, decided to go on a mission trip with Intown Community Church to Bangkok, Thailand. In Bangkok, they saw MTW’s urban church planting ministry, met Thai Christians, and saw how God was using local and international believers to build His Church. They were drawn to that.
How do an artist and an educator help with the planting of churches? How are they part of an urban church planting team?
Though Tim’s work in ceramics and visual arts took a backseat when he first moved to Thailand, pottery eventually became a part of his life again, allowing him to build relationships with other artists and teach new ones.
What they realized was that people from all different backgrounds can be involved in the work God does through His Church. Though Tim’s work in ceramics and visual arts took a backseat when he first moved to Thailand, pottery eventually became a part of his life again, allowing him to build relationships with other artists and teach new ones. Over the seasons, Rhianna and Tim have filled different roles: teaching English, helping to lead worship, teaching Sunday school classes, and teaching students how to use a potter’s wheel. Tim and Rhianna never expected that first trip would lead to all this, but God’s call unfolded step by step.
