Following three years of planning, raising support and construction, the “Tree of Life” medical clinic (Clínica “El Árbol de la Vida”) is now open outside of La Ceiba, Honduras. Located in the 3,000-person community of Armenia Bonito, this clinic will help meet the spiritual and physical needs of the people of Honduras.
 
MTW’s mission team in Honduras built the clinic. Honduran nationals did the majority of the construction; visiting short-term mission teams from MTW did the rest. The clinic is run by Dr. Roger Guillén, a Honduran-born, Cuban-trained physician, and Erin Pettengill, MTW missionary and registered nurse. Before the “Tree of Life” opened, the residents of Armenia Bonito were forced to ride a bus more than an hour to receive medical treatment.
 
While waiting to be seen, the patients will receive individual prayer and evangelism from Jesús Caseres, pastor of the newly planted First Presbyterian Church of La Ceiba.
 
The name of the clinic, “Tree of Life,” comes from Revelation 22:2, which says, “through the middle of the street of the city; also, on either side of the river, the tree of life with its twelve kinds of fruit, yielding its fruit each month. The leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.” The tree of life represents eternal life found in Christ. The leaves of the tree provide physical and spiritual healing to God’s unreached throughout the world. It is a symbol of the healing of the body and the curing of the soul that will take place in God’s new clinic in Honduras.
