Sydney, Australia
Sydney is a gateway city to the Asia-Pacific region, with constant movement of people in and out of Australia, across the region, into Asia, and beyond. As the late John Kyle, former MTW coordinator, once observed, “Thousands are moving from the country to the city. In one city alone there can be dozens of complex ethnic groups, a barrier just as formidable as tribal groups.” This diversity creates a unique kingdom opportunity: a single city where the nations gather, grow, and often return to their former homes.
MTW’s Sydney team serves alongside church and campus ministries in this strategic context. MTW helped establish several key ministries that now continue under local leadership, including RUF-Australia (known locally as Student Outreach to the World, or SOW). RUF-Australia ministers to college students at four major universities in Sydney, preparing them for a lifetime of discipleship during these critical years. The team also partners with the Westminster Presbyterian Church denomination, both in Sydney and nationally, to support and grow the local church.
The hope is that many will come to know the Lord in the post-Christian, global context of Sydney and be raised up as servant leaders for Christ’s Church here and throughout the world.
