Women on the Mission Field: Erin Pettengill, Witness 2019 (VIDEO)

By Staff, Jul 23, 2019

In our culture and on the mission field around the world, women play a unique and important role in God’s plan for the nations. Statistically more women go on the mission field than men, and 80-85% of singles on the mission field are women. Women face unique challenges on the mission field, particularly in cultures that view women differently, but they also have unique opportunities for ministry that men often do not have.

Veteran missionary and R.N., Erin Pettengill shares from her own experience about serving on the mission field as a woman. Erin has traveled the world working in disaster response in both Sri Lanka and Haiti, and as a medical missionary in Egypt, the Philippines, Honduras, Mexico, and Equatorial Guinea.

Watch and learn from Erin’s insight and personal experience as a missionary woman who has been used of God in service to the nations. Catch up on other Witness sessions you may have missed at mtw.org/witness.

Pray for the abandoned and disabled children living at The Josephine House in Cusco, Peru. Pray that they will grow in the knowledge of Christ and be adopted into godly homes.

Pray for the musicians (and fishermen) in "The Band" of Nosy Be, Madagascar. They've put newly-translated Scripture to music, but are just beginning to grasp its meaning.

Pray for the ministry of the Etiennes in Gonaives, Haiti. Pray for the church, schools, children's homes, and for the raising up of national leaders.

Pray for national pastor Giotis Kantartzis and missionaries Philip and Kay Luther serving in Athens, Greece, as they work toward a vision of expansive church-planting in a region that is hungry for truth.

Pray for new churches being planted in Colombia. Every church MTW helps plant is a missionary church whose vision from the start is to plant other churches.

Pray that the global church, including the PCA in the U.S., would love their neighbors well and see the value of hospitality in leading others into truth.

Give thanks for those God is drawing to Himself around the world, particularly a Japanese who feared she was too broken to be fixed, and several Ukrainian students who are exploring faith in Christ.

Pray that the agricultural training efforts of the Equipping Farming International ministry would make a way for pastors and churches in Africa and around the world to become self-supporting.

Pray that God would prepare hearts for the upcoming PCA Global Missions Conference November 1-3.

Give thanks for the many Japanese women coming to faith in Tokyo Bay through the faithfulness of one woman who became a Christian through MTW missionaries.
