The History of Missions: Lauren Kim, Witness 2019 (VIDEO)

By Staff, Jul 9, 2019

What does the history of the Church have to teach us about our role in missions today? Dr. Lauren Kim, assistant professor of Christian history at Claremont McKenna College kicks off the 2019 Witness West Coast Missions Conference with a history of the Church and its relevance to the Great Commission.

Our history includes persecution, division, and a lot of sin requiring repentance. But it includes a lot of good as well. As part of the Reformed tradition, we’ve done well with Bible translation, theological education, and learning from past mistakes. We still have work to do. But through the good and the bad, we remember that God is with us.

Follow along as Lauren Kim unpacks 2000 years of church history in this informative session. Catch up on other Witness sessions you may have missed at mtw.org/witness.

Pray for new churches being planted in Colombia. Every church MTW helps plant is a missionary church whose vision from the start is to plant other churches.

Pray that American churches would see the importance of continuing to support global missions

Give thanks for God's work among the next generation in Scotland, and pray that many young people would live for Him as a result.

Pray that churches would make it a priority to pass on the faith to the next generation among the nations, encouraging trust and obedience to God's Word.

Pray for missionaries as they go through trials that require patience. Pray that God would strengthen them and give them hope.

Pray for 18-year-old Grecia in Mexico, and others like her, who God is transforming into a woman after His own heart, thanks in part to faithful short-term teams.
