Could COVID-19 Bring Revival to the Church? (VIDEO)

By Lloyd Kim, Mar 26, 2020

MTW Coordinator Lloyd Kim shares a message related to recent events in the video below.

The following is a transcript of the video:

Hi I’m Lloyd Kim, Coordinator of Mission to the World.

These past few weeks have been incredibly challenging and the temptation to slip into fear and anxiety is great. I’m right there with you. But what if all that’s happening is actually part of a bigger plan. What if all that is happening is actually one part of an answer to prayer?

What do I mean? Well, what have we been praying for these past couple of years? We have been praying for revival … for renewal of the North American Church. We have been praying for a movement of the Holy Spirit that would result in the growth and vibrancy of the church, the fruit of which would be that a least 1% of our adult members would be sent to engage in global missions.

But what often precedes revival? Persecution, yes, but also suffering and often sickness. We’ve seen it in the early church during the plagues as Christians sacrificially loved and cared not only for their own, but also for their unbelieving neighbors. Could it be that this horrible disease and all the fears associated with it are actually kindling for revival fire across our nation? Could it be that this would lead to repentance, faith, and trust in the promises of the gospel and the strengthening and growth of the church?

We have an incredible opportunity before us … to first remind ourselves of the gospel promises and then to lean in to these challenges with radical love and generosity to world full of fear and anxiety.

We at MTW are praying for you and for our nation and the world. Would you remember us in your prayers as well? Pray especially for our missionaries that they would faithfully serve and proclaim the gospel during these unprecedented times.

Pray for the abandoned and disabled children living at The Josephine House in Cusco, Peru. Pray that they will grow in the knowledge of Christ and be adopted into godly homes.

Pray for the musicians (and fishermen) in "The Band" of Nosy Be, Madagascar. They've put newly-translated Scripture to music, but are just beginning to grasp its meaning.

Pray for the ministry of the Etiennes in Gonaives, Haiti. Pray for the church, schools, children's homes, and for the raising up of national leaders.

Pray for national pastor Giotis Kantartzis and missionaries Philip and Kay Luther serving in Athens, Greece, as they work toward a vision of expansive church-planting in a region that is hungry for truth.

Pray for new churches being planted in Colombia. Every church MTW helps plant is a missionary church whose vision from the start is to plant other churches.
