Robert and Jeanne have had the privilege of living and serving in the post-communist, northern European country of Latvia for 14 years with Mission to the World. Their main focus of ministry has been church planting and revitalization in partnership with Evangelical Reformed national pastors and their congregations. During that time, the number of churches grew from two to four with the addition of one Latvian and one international congregation.
As of March 1, 2025, they will have officially "retired" from being vocational missionaries and become eager volunteers. The Smiths’ MTW support account remains open to receive contributions so that they can continue serving the Reformed churches in Latvia during the summer months which are full of ministry opportunities, including Bible camps and discipleship groups for all ages. Robert and Jeanne also plan to assist with mentoring new missionaries through MTW's Kingdom Foundations' training program, help recruit new laborers, and participate in additional mission-related endeavors the Lord provides. They won't receive a salary, but can claim expenses. Robert and Jeanne’s desire is to stay active in gospel ministry.
