Odtohan, Anthony & Sayo
Serving in Japan | Acct # P-0042
Anthony was born in the U.S. and raised in the Philippines. In college he qualified for an exchange student scholarship to International Christian University in Tokyo where he met Sayo in 2008. Sayo majored in linguistics and studied to become qualified to teach English and Japanese.
Sayo is from Fukushima, Japan. She was originally drawn to Christianity through exposure to English. Homestay experiences abroad served as seeds of interest that eventually led her to ICU where she came to faith before meeting Anthony.
The MTW Chiba team (now Chiba Academics and Outreach Team) met Anthony and Sayo in 2010. They were discipled through the team and church community, and married in 2011. They grew in grace and were able to see fruit during an initial three-year internship (2016–2019) and then were called as full-time staff in 2019.
Anthony serves primarily as a church ministry assistant and deacon (since 2021) with Oyumino Christ Church’s bilingual congregation, Alive International (see www.alive.international), and in outreach activities for a potential future church planting project. He is also involved in English outreach evangelism ministry. His vision is to reach many families with the gospel.
