Newkirk, Matt and Caroline

Serving in Japan | Acct # 15454

PERSONAL NOTE

The Newkirks serve with Christ Bible Seminary in Nagoya, Japan. After meeting while serving together at a church plant in California, Matt and Caroline married in 2005 and made their first short-term trip to CBS in 2008. Matt now serves as president and professor of Old Testament at CBS, leading the faculty and staff, teaching the Scriptures, mentoring students, and helping equip them for the work of gospel ministry.

Matt is an ordained teaching elder in the PCA, having earned his M.Div. from Reformed Theological Seminary and a Ph.D. in Old Testament from Wheaton College. Caroline holds an M.A. in intercultural studies from Wheaton College, where she focused much of her studies on examining Japanese culture from a missional perspective. Together they feel a great burden to see God’s glorious kingship recognized and adored by the Japanese, the second largest unreached people group in the world.

Christ Bible Seminary was started in 2005 and is part of a larger organization called Christ Bible Institute, which also includes a church planting and revitalization ministry (Joy of Japan Center), a counseling training ministry (CBI counseling), and a translation and publication ministry (CBI Press).
