Darlene Quarterman
Missionary Alumni | Global | Acct # 16400
The Quartermans served with MTW for 42 years. They retired in 2019 but have continued to serve MTW in short-term mission trips. Donations are used to defray travel expenses. In February 2026, the Lord called Clay home in an unexpected and sudden loss for Darlene and their family. While grieving, they are thankful that Clay is now rejoicing in the presence of his Savior.
The Quartermans served 14 years on MTW’s Portugal team, planting Presbyterian churches and teaching Bible college, and in 1993 they transitioned to Ukraine, where they lived 25 years. The Ukraine team started 12 Presbyterian churches and founded the Evangelical Reformed Seminary of Ukraine (ERSU), where Clay was a professor.
Clay earned two degrees from RTS-Jackson: an M.Div. (1977) and a D.Min. (1986). He holds a Ph.D. in theology from the University of Wales (2005) and is an ordained PCA pastor (honorably retired). He is the author of Retooling the Church (2012) and various articles.
Clay and Darlene were reared in Christian homes and had an early interest in missions. They are from First Presbyterian of Jackson, Miss., and the West Hopewell Church in Virginia. They met at Belhaven University, and their first date was to a missions conference. They married in December 1973. They have four grown sons who live in the U.S. with their wives and children.
