2022 PCA COMPASSION OFFERING
In August 2021, a magnitude 7.2 earthquake struck southwestern Haiti, killing more than 2,000 people, injuring more than 12,000.
On top of the human impact, the earthquake damaged or destroyed hundreds of thousands of homes, schools, hospitals, and churches. All told, the disaster left around 650,000 Haitians in desperate need of food, clean water, shelter, and resources to rebuild their lives.
MTW missionaries put out a call for help. Thanks to your donations to the Compassion Fund, we were able to provide emergency food, water, and supplies for temporary shelter for the displaced population in southern Haiti and to help rebuild dozens of destroyed or damaged parsonages through the work of our missionaries and partner organizations.
Right now, it’s the war in Ukraine. Initial emergency funds were immediately available from the Compassion Fund. Every year the Compassion Fund enables our missionaries and national partners to respond to urgent situations in their communities, meeting physical needs and sharing the love of Christ. We praise God that we were able to assist in 19 different emergency situations last year, many due to the ongoing pandemic.
*Funds received by MTW as part of a disaster response appeal are used for relief and recovery, construction, travel for response teams, and related needs as well as for longer-term rebuilding and church planting. Exceptionally, when there are unspent funds, they will be used in future disaster and compassion situations.
