Mobility Training for the Blind in Chile
Americas - South | Project # 90833
What would you miss the most if you found yourself losing your sight? What new struggles would you encounter? If you heard about a class that could help you with practical things like using computers with adaptive technology, and learning Braille—relearning to read—how would you get to that place?
MTW Chile’s Presbyterian Ministry Center for the disabled (CEMIPRE) offers these classes in a warm, welcoming atmosphere in a country where disability is still viewed by many as punishment by a distant, angry god. But helping the recently blind get to the center is a real and practical issue, currently dependent on the availability and good will of others.
To solve that dilemma, CEMIPRE offers orientation and mobility skills, enabling the blind to navigate their world safely through use of the white cane. Qualified instructors work individually with students to help them achieve independence, opening the door to even more opportunities and training through the center.
Please give to this project and help us manifest God’s heart of compassion among the disabled in Chile.
