Plovdiv Church Plant

Plovdiv is a very old city with a rich history that includes people and civilizations such as Thracians, Bulgars, Philip II of Macedon (father of Alexander the Great), the Roman Empire, the Ottoman Empire, and Eastern European Communism. Each has left its unique mark on the city and survives today in its cultured inhabitants. Yet although Christianity was first introduced in Bulgaria more than 1,000 years ago, today most of its citizens live without a true saving relationship with Jesus Christ.

The western district of Plovdiv, Hristo Smirnenski, is growing rapidly and is home to more than 30,000 people, but does not have a Protestant Christian church. The MTW team in Plovdiv, partnered with a Bulgarian denomination, seeks to change that. Their desire is to see the kingdom of God actively changing the communities of Plovdiv through the planting of new churches. Most Bulgarians are resistant to Protestant Christianity and view it with skepticism. Only the power of the Spirit of God can break the hard hearts. Pray that God would glorify His name by overcoming this stronghold of the enemy.
